Silymarin 240 mg

Silymarin is a complex of flavonolignans extracted from Silybum marianum (milk thistle) seeds, with silybin (silibinin) as the predominant and most pharmacologically active constituent. Silybin protects hepatocytes through multiple mechanisms: competitive inhibition of hepatotoxin membrane transport, free-radical scavenging within the lipid bilayer, inhibition of lipid peroxidation cascades, and upregulation of RNA polymerase I for hepatocyte regeneration. Crucially, silybin acts as a ligand for the farnesoid X receptor (FXR), improving bile acid metabolism and reducing hepatic lipogenesis — mechanisms that underpin its clinical efficacy in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
